Preparing for college is no easy feat. The choice can be tough and challenging, but don’t be discouraged because we have four easy steps to help you prepare.
Step #1: Join Extracurricular Activities
- Joining extracurricular activities can really help boost your college resume. Colleges are looking for students who are involved in their communities. Doing things such as volunteering for community service, tutoring other students or being part of clubs can all help make you look like a model student in the eyes of a college advisor.
Step #2: Keep Those Grades Up!
- Of course college isn’t only about great resumes and good essays, but your grades have to be good too. Students with lower GPAs will have a harder time getting accepted into the colleges of their choice. For example, on average NYU’s admitted students have had an average GPA of 3.7, so if NYU is your top choice, you might want to pull up those grades. Turning in work on time, studying thoroughly to pass tests and of course, asking for extra credit can all be helpful ways to boost your GPA.
Step #3: Go on College Tours/Research Local Colleges
- Going on College tours or talking to a college advisor can really help prepare you for college. College tours are extremely helpful because it gives you a visual guide as to what life on campus looks like. College advisors are really helpful because they actually work on the campus. They can give a day-to-day schedule of a college student and give good information on what campus life is really like. Even if the college you want to visit isn’t local or in the state, college websites also give a lot of useful information for future applicants.
Step #4: Try your best, work your hardest!
- In order for you to be successful in college, you must try your hardest. Being a model student doesn’t just mean good grades or loads of community service, but it also means to show integrity and work hard. Colleges are looking for students who work hard and try their best, even if they don’t succeed. To be successful is to fail and failing is okay. At the end of the day, to truly be successful and prepare for college is to work your hardest now, and keep that attitude until graduation.
